Ethernet First Mile (EFM), the affordable way to boost your Business connectivity
EFM is a tough reliable high-speed business internet connection which is a low cost alternative to a fibre leased line. EFM uses existing copper telephone lines (instead of a dedicated fibre) to connect you to the local exchange and into the Vispa national network. EMF is delivered over either two or four copper telephone lines which we call pairs. Below you will find our EFM instant availabilty and price checker. Simply provide us with a postcode or telephone number of a line at the property.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is EFM?
Why should I choose EFM?
EFM is short for Ethernet First Mile and is a service that runs over copper telephone lines rather than fibre optic. The copper lines are then bonded which increases speed and resilience.
Can I have EFM?
- It's cheaper than a fibre leased line.
- Dedicated symmetrical bandwidth.
- 99.9% Guaranteed uptime.
- 8 Hour time to fix guarantee.
- 24/7 Network Monitoring.
- Reduced installation time.
What are the contract terms?
EFM is only available on selected telephone exchanges and within a certain distance from the exchange. Please use our EFM checker to see if its available on your exchange.
How long is the delivery time?
EFM is available on a one and three year contract term. The three year term offers some discount on the installation cost.
How many staic IP's do I get?
EFM needs to be provisioned across the local telecoms network alongside the Vispa network. Standard delivery time can range from 20-30 working days however our EFM availability and price checker will give you an estimation on delivery time.
How reliable is EFM?
We provision your EFM circuit with four usable IPv4 IP addresses. You can apply for additional IP addresses at a cost of £100 per year per block of eight IPv4 addresses.
EFM is extremely resilient. If you loose connectivity of one copper pair, the other pairs remain active and you will run at a reduced speed until the fault has been repaired. Remember we have an 8 hour time to fix service level agreement.
EFM was the logical solution for our business as we didn't want the cost of a leased line but required dedicated bandwidth for our cloud based VoIP system. We are now safe in the knowledge that should anything go wrong, it will be fixed the same day.

Previous to us installing EFM, we had tried various services such as FTTC but the issue for us was shared capacity.
With EFM we now have 1:1 contended bandwidth which really has made a difference to our day-to-day operations. We would highly recommended EFM to any small to medium sized business.
